TheWest Bengal Bangla Shasya Bima Yojana2023 is designed to benefit farmers in the state of West Bengal. The main objective of launching this scheme is to provide crop insurance to farmers especially for kharif season crops.

Department Of Agriculture Of West Bengal state will administer the scheme. This scheme will help farmers who are currently facing economic poverty due to the current situation in the country. The scheme will be available to farmers from the economically weaker section of the scheme.

• TheWest Bengal Bangla Shasya Bima Yojanais a crop insurance scheme provided by the Government.
• Agricultural Insurance Company of India will provide the insurance
• Several districts of West Bengal are covered in this schedule like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Purba Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Malda, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Purulia, South Dinajpur, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas .
• Under this arrangement, the whole premium will be borne by the Government of West Bengal.
• Insurance will be provided on the following occasions-
• For any losses suffered during planting
• Losses suffered during cultivation
• The losses occurred during the period post-cutting when crops are lying in the field
• Losses caused due to adverse weather situations.
• The insurance amount will be calculated on a hectare basis.

• Annual Commercial/Annual Horticultural crops

• The subsidy will be phased out over a period of 5 years, with an evaluation of economic outcomes and feedback from farmers at the end of the first year of implementation of the scheme.

Some Important Details Regarding The Scheme

• BSB app has been launched for farmers to register online for crop insurance under the scheme
• The system app is used by central users. Users can download the app from the Google Play Store
• If the voter ID card is already registered, farmers can access information on crop insurance from the app
• Through the app, users can get the names of the crops
• The beneficiaries cannot edit the EPIC number, the name of the farmer, the relationship with the farmer and the bank account name of the farmer by entering data at the time of registration
• The list of specified crops can be collected from the gate
• Data entry into the portal can be performed by intermediary users
• Implementing agencies will approve farmer applications
• Farmers can also download a temporary insurance certificate from the portal
• The state government is implementing the scheme through insurance companies
• The state government bears 100 per cent of the charge as subsidy for all notified crops except commercial crops of potatoes and sugarcane
• The state government is responsible for the implementation of the scheme
• Only those crops notified by the state government before the commencement of the crop season will be covered under the crop insurance
• Potato and sugarcane farmers charge 4.85% of the sum insured and if it exceeds 4.85%, the state government pays an additional amount.
• The beneficiaries can also lodge complaints on the portal
• Crop damage information can be shared through the insurance companys toll-free number
• Crop blocked/highly exposed mid-season distress for major crops and all reported season and crop data, will be covered by crop insurance
• Crop monitoring will be based on crop harvest trials or through remote sensing technologies monitoring crop health
• To apply under the scheme, farmers are required to visit village camps to be organized by the authorities
• All farmers including semi-crop farmers and tenants cultivating notified crops in notified areas are eligible
